Cadiz (S CA Site 25)

by JerryFebruary 24, 2010 California - Southern

Directions: Mitchell’s map and directions to the site are misleading. The turn off Cadiz Rd is just before the 2nd curve where the road turns right to cross the railroad. From the parking area below the deposits, follow the trail left across the face, then around and up into the higher shale deposits on the [...]

Chambless (S CA Site 26)

by JerryFebruary 22, 2010 California - Southern

Directions: We visited Sites B and C. Mitchell’s directions to the sites are generally accurate, however there is no street sign for “Mactull Ave”. It is the road just across the highway from the Chambless Water Company. A couple of blue painted cairns have been placed to help mark the road to site C. Use [...]

by JerryMarch 21, 2009 Gem Trails by State

Directions: The Gem Trails map and directions are accurate, at least as far as Site C, though the ‘ruts’ are actually FS Rd 838. We did not go to Site A or B. GPS: N 32 49 30, W 108 20 03.

by JerryMarch 14, 2009 California - Southern

Directions: We had a little trouble finding Shell Canyon as Shell Canyon Rd leads directly into a large rock and gravel quarry. The road into the canyon is a left turn before entering the quarry, but it is unmarked. We parked outside the canyon and hiked in, but with a Jeep or quad you can [...]

Yuha Basin (S CA Site 4)

by JerryMarch 7, 2009 California - Southern

Directions: The BLM road into the basin is easy to find as shown in the book. After the area indicated as Site B the road gets a little rough and then it drops down into Yuha Wash where 4WD is advised.

Plaster City (S CA Site 3)

by JerryMarch 7, 2009 California - Southern

Directions: This site is now within a vast OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) Recreation Area, with trails going everywhere. When we were there, a rally was in progress, making things even more interesting. We don’t think we located Site A, but we may have located Site B. We followed a large wash west for perhaps a mile [...]
