Bear Creek (OR R2 Site 29 – GR)

by Jerry on April 16, 2010

Directions: Garret’s directions and map will get you there, but it can be a little confusing as there are many roads in the hills. The turn off Bear Creek Rd is just before a cattle guard. After you pass through the gate, you will bear left twice. The collecting area is marked by a basalt outcrop about 4 ft high and several feet across on the left.

Notes: We went to the site as an afterthought, so didn’t have a lot of time to search the area. But we found a pit with 2 good sized chunks of petrified wood not far from the road . We dug out the easier block, a nice yard rock in the range of 100 lb. We picked up a few additional smaller pieces with nice grain.
