Directions: We only visited Site B. Mitchell’s directions to the site are accurate. The site is clearly identified by the dome-shaped hill composed of red rhyolite, see photo.
Date: February 2010
Notes: We stopped at 3 locations, the first 1.4 miles from Hwy 62, then 2 miles, and finally at about 3 miles. We obtained jasper in all 3 areas, but found better material farther from the highway. We found very little agate and a lot of low grade jasper, but good quality jasper and jaspagate mostly in reds with banding was found with patient hiking. There seemed to be more larger material available near the red outcrops and surrounding washes than on flat pavement areas. We also picked up a few chunks of psilomelane.
