Notes: There is plentiful tumbling material scattered about, some already wave polished. Colors tend to be rather drab and for us most of the material is rather uninteresting. We found a couple of pieces of petrified wood, but nothing special. The oolitic agate from up the hill is different. We picked up a couple of 3 – 5 lb hunks for cutting. It makes an interesting specimen, but it’s rather porous and monochromatic when cut, like a tan-colored birdseye. Not gem quality.

The highlight of Harney Lake is the ease of which material can be found. My 8- and 4 year olds had a blast picking up small chunks of wood and agate. I also ventured up the hill for the oolitic agate, and agree with Jerry on the color.
