Fallon Agate (NV Site 45)

Directions: The directions in Gem Trails are generally accurate, but the map is a little misleading.  At 2.3 miles beyond the cattle guard, you dead-end at a Bentonite clay mining operation, with dirt roads going left and right. Follow the right branch around the clay pit to get to Green Mountain, obvious when you see it. Site A should be off to the left after the pit, but we didn’t go there.

Notes: We circled Green Mountain looking for any potentially cuttable stone, but despite Mitchell calling it jade-like, we found it to be mostly  rather course and or porous. However our primary interest was the blue lace agate which we found on the lower slopes of the hill. It’s not plentiful, but we gathered several pounds, mostly small. A lot of it is of doubtful quality, but we think we have a few pieces that will produce nice finished stones.
