Directions: You can’t miss this site north of US 50 about 15 miles east of Fallon.
Date: April 2009
Notes: The first place we stopped was just across from the Churchill Beach entrance to Lohanton State Recreation Area. We found both agate and jasper, pieces up to 15 or 20 pounds in a variety of colors. We stopped again another mile or so west and found more material, including plentiful chert, though the colors tended to grays and neutral browns. A last stop a few miles farther on yielded nothing. This site was farther from the lake, which left us with the impression that the better material was to be found nearer the lake. We didn’t find any petrified wood at any of the places we searched.
While in the area, we stayed at one of the Lohanton Reservoir beach camp sites; very nice, on the beach and only $10 per night.
