Richardson’s Ranch (OR R1 Site 9)

Directions: You will have no trouble locating Richardson’s following the map. There are also signs along the highway. Take the Hay Creek Rd turn and go a mile to the ranch. They are still providing free overnight camping for customers at Richardson’s.

Notes: Richardson’s will not disappoint. There are numerous egg beds and they will provide directions for getting around the ranch. Some of the ranch roads are easier to negotiate with 4WD. We spent just one day so had to select only 4 of the available digs. The flame  jasper dig seemed to be worked out, but the thunder egg ledges were productive. After slicing up much of our take, we found only one geode and a lot of eggs filled with common opal (pinks and pale yellows). One egg contained precious opal, a rare find. Several others contained patterned agate. We also obtained several pounds of blue “jelly opal” eggs which are striking when polished.

All ranch material is $1/lb, whether you dig it or pick from what’s available at the office. They also have polished eggs and a large variety of imported rocks and minerals.
